ZION NATIONAL PARK: NO COMPLAINTS

Zion definitely lives up to the photos on Google. Can confirm the rocks really are that red. These are our tips and observations for Zion.

  1. Don’t miss the Zion Mount-Carmel Tunnel and the surrounding area. We headed out this way, and were met with a stunning sunrise hitting the rocks. Also, we recommend listening to “What is Love?” EDM remix on the way through the tunnel. Entering the park through this entrance would also be simply magical. We have a habit of exiting through the most scenic entrance.

  2. There is a disappointing lack of apex predators. I kept expecting a bear, wolf, anything. Only bison and deer here.

  3. Sand Bench trail is not worth it. Unless you’re riding a horse. It’s hot, buggy, and lots of horse poop. You can see the view from Bus Stop 4.

  4. If you’re looking for a sunrise spot, go by the tunnel and not the canyon. That’s where you’ll see the rocks turn red.

  5. Canyon Coffee is amazing. Just outside the park with an open-air seating area, good coffee, and you get a sticker if you review them on Yelp. This isn’t sponsored but I wish it was.

  6. Go to the Grand Staircase Escalante if you have time. We didn’t. But I regret it. It’s on the way to Bryce Canyon National Park, which you should also check out.

  7. If you’re driving up from LA, stop to get a fresh date shake. You can’t miss the sign.

Yet some questions remain unanswered. Here are our unasked ranger questions.

  1. Why are the rocks so red?

  2. What/who is the park named after?

  3. Why are some rocks gray?

  4. How does the Angel’s Landing permit system work? Are you less likely to get one with a bigger group?

If anyone can get these answered for us that would be great.
